MYeyes Kids The first six years are critical to the development of a child's eyes and vision. It is during that period of time that the MACULA, at the centre of the RETINA evolves. The health and number of RECEPTOR cells packed into that small structure depend upon the right form of stimulation. The eyes have to be pointing straight towards the object that they are looking at so that light rays are directed at the maculae. The so-called, MEDIA of the eyes have to be clear for the uninhibited passage of light. If a child has a turn, called STRABISMUS in one or both eyes that will need to be detected and dealt with during the critical first six years. There are specialists in the field of ocular muscle treatment called ORTHOPTISTS who work in conjunction with other eye-care consultants. Even without the concerns just described an eye-check for kids can be fun and provide a good introduction to clinical environments. A child's vision can be checked at any age, the younger they are, of course, the simpler the tests will need to be. Their eye muscles can be tested and the health of the internal eye can be seen and assessed by an expert. |
